Lamar’s Landing Spot

Overview shot of the Baltimore Ravens stadium.

The 2019 MVP has requested a trade. This is big news for a multitude of teams in the NFL. While I think it is still likely he will end up a Raven, there are several teams who still need a QB and would be a perfect fit for the franchise player. However, only time will tell whether he will actually start taking snaps in a different uniform next season. I would love to see Lamar Jackson out of Baltimore. His last season wasn’t his best. Primarily due to injuries and the lack of offensive weapons on the Ravens. That said, here are three ideal landing spots for the 26-year-old QB out of Pompano Beach, FL.

The Washington Commanders

Lamar Jackson playing in the Nation’s capital makes sense for a few reasons. For one, it wouldn’t be much of a move for Lamar. M&T Bank Stadium and FedEx Field are only about 32 miles away from each other. This would make the transition almost seamless. Moreover, Jackson would finally have strong, more than capable receivers to target (Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson). Currently, the Commanders are in line to start Jacoby Brissett. He isn’t the worst option. But let’s be honest, he is nowhere near the talent level of Lamar. This makes the starting position open for the taking.

In addition, Eric Bieniemy is the new assistant coach and OC for the Commanders. His experience with the Chiefs and coaching Patrick Mahomes should translate well for Jackson. Bieniemy is entering his 25th season in the NFL. He knows the game and what it takes to win a Super Bowl. This could be very intriguing for Lamar, who wants nothing more than to win. Ultimately, joining the Washington Commanders could provide Lamar Jackson with a great opportunity to thrive and achieve his goal of winning a Super Bowl.

The Minnesota Vikings

Another possible landing spot for Lamar Jackson is the Minnesota Vikings. However, this may be the least likely option on this list. Kirk Cousins has re-signed for the next season, and for some reason, the Vikings didn’t take the pay cut Kirk was willing to take. Nevertheless, Jackson could be the missing piece in the puzzle for the Vikings. Jackson and Justin Jefferson would be an outstanding duo. On paper, those two alone may be enough to bring the Lombardi to Minnesota, something the franchise has yet to do. Justin Jefferson is perhaps the best wide receiver in the NFL. If he isn't number one, then he must be in the top three. Having a WR of that caliber should be enough reason for Lamar to want to move up north to Minneapolis.

Additionally, the Vikings have a strong running game led by Dalvin Cook, which would complement Jackson's running ability and create a dynamic offensive attack. The Vikings also have a solid offensive line, which would provide Jackson with the protection he needs to make plays happen. Unfortunately, the Vikings don’t have much cap room. There is a good chance Dalvin Cook will be traded to either the Bills, Bengals, or… Baltimore Ravens. If the latter is the case, Cook could be traded for Lamar. Overall, while it may be unlikely, the possibility of Lamar Jackson joining the Minnesota Vikings is an intriguing one, and would certainly shake up the NFL landscape.

The Indianapolis Colts

I’m just going to come out and say it, the Colts need a quarterback, and bad. Last season was horrendous for Indy. It seemed like they couldn’t complete a pass no matter who they tried to put under center. Nothing clicked on offense. Granted, it may be because they lost their head coach mid-season and needed time to adjust. Regardless, the Colts could very well put in a bid for Jackson. This could take the Colts from being less than average to a real threat. Not only do they have the young talent Jonathan Taylor at RB but they also have Michael Pittman. With the right QB, Pittman could shine in this offense. Although his season was underwhelming, to say the least, he still has all the intangibles to become one of the better wide receivers in the league.

Adding Lamar Jackson to the Colts would be a game-changer for the team. Jackson's athleticism and ability to make plays happen would give the Colts a much-needed boost on offense. He could also provide a level of consistency and stability at the quarterback position that the team has been lacking since Andrew Luck retired. In addition to having talented weapons in Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman, the Colts have a decent offensive line, which we saw when they almost beat the Eagles this past season. The Colts OL could provide Jackson with the protection and time he needs to make big plays happen. Will the Colts make the moves necessary to secure Jackson? Or will they rely on their first-round draft pick to get their new gunslinger?

Final Thoughts

All in all, wherever Lamar Jackson decides to go he is sure to make an impact as long as he can stay healthy. Lamar has been plagued with injuries in the past. Something that may deter teams from wanting to pursue him. However, whatever team chooses to sign Lamar Jackson will inherit a dynamic quarterback and leader. And who knows? A change of scenery and pace may be just what Jackson needs to reignite his career and legacy. To stay up-to-date on the latest insights and news, don’t forget to subscribe below!
